Thanks, for this timely and useful comparison. I really do like my EF 35/2 IS, and have been contemplating adding a mid-range zoom, including the 24-70/4 IS, and, especially the 24-70/2.8L II. It may be better to save the money. (My “aging” former work-horse EF 24-105/4L is actually quite nice; no hurry to buy anything.)

Personally I will buy only 2 RF lenses when I get the R5: - RF 24-105 f/4 for general purpose/landscape/travel photography. The 35mm advantage over the 24-70 is not negligible and at 105mm f/4 your DoF will be as shallow as 70mm f/2.8.
24-70 is sharper and faster and $1000 more expensive. You get what you pay for. If street is most important the low light benefit of the faster lens probably isn’t necessary. A lot of wedding photographers like the 24-70 for dark indoor photography.
I knew it wasn’t top-of-the-line Canon, but it worked well for me. Along came the 24~105 offering portability (only a wee bit heavier than the 28~135), good zoom range and top quality at three times the price.
